In the early 2000s, lip gloss and juicy plump lips was the iconic look. Growing up in that era, there is quite the disparity between how I personally defined glamour makeup before and now. Given that age was a big factor, media was the bigger influence. The no-makeup makeup look was a popular search on youtube tutorials and the smokey eye was an every day favorite. Now, with the exponential bloom of social media and rising obsession with young celebrities like Kylie Jenner and her lined matte lips, many women are engaging in a more risqué hue that emulates an edgier side to them. This can be lining with a earthy and neutral tone, a darker burgundy, or a satin red.
My personal favorite darks of this winter are definitely these:
Diva by Mac.
This color by far is the most versatile. It is a smooth and subtle introduction to the dark lips era, without going too crazy, it’s a sensual color for a dinner party to a night out in the city.
Black Cherry by Revlon.
The slight shimmery finish on an otherwise dark red lip is both moisturizing and sexy. Match a smoky eye to this lip color and you’ve got yourself a look straight off the runway. The best part? You can remove the excess coating on the top to make it appear more matte and the lipstick will leave a lovely tint on your lips.
SuperStay 24 2-Step Color in Everlasting Wine by Maybelline.
This wine stain on your lips is a sultry but classy color, perfect match with any leather jacket and trench coat. Get a glow on your cheeks and brush on some mascara, and you are definitely date-ready.
A bold color for a bold personality. Super edgy and super sheek. You’ll have people doing double-takes, wondering if they actually saw you rocking blue lipstick. Sublime surprise! They were right. Look and feel like a rock star, push the boundaries of trendy fashion and steer away from the mainstream appeal.
Everlasting Liquid Lolita by Kat Von D.
Lolita is actually a very pleasant dark pink tint. The texture is matte and gives a very natural beauty, a delicate touch of color, like the moment when you blush.
Velvetine black by LimeCrime.
If you’re in the mood to try something extremely awesome, you should definitely go for velvetine black. The misconception of black lipstick is that you will appear too gothic or ‘emo’, but with sporting a lighter makeup, maybe a small cat-eye and a lightly golden bronzed face, you can take this to the next level.
Velvet Matte Cruella by Nars.
This lipstick looks more like a crayon and probably makes the most sense when applying onto the lips. It works like a thick lip liner and feels just as velvety as its name entitles it to be. Everyone needs to have a dash of luxury like this one.
Which one is your favorite?
